Prohibited Transactions

- Making new investments in a country that is **blocked** or in property that a **blocked** government or Specially Designated National (SDN) owns, controls, or has an interest

- Re-exporting, selling, or supplying goods or services to a **targeted** foreign country, regime, or **blocked** individual

- Directly or indirectly importing products originating from a **blocked** nation, **targeted** country, or which is produced by an SDN

- Facilitating any transaction that economic or trade sanctions prohibit a person or company from conducting

- Conducting any other transaction concerning goods, services, or products that originate from a **targeted** nation

- Transferring funds to and/or from financial accounts in which a Specially Designated National (SDN) or **blocked** person has an interest or which are located in a **targeted** nation

- Extending credit or providing financial services to any person or entity listed on the SDN list


Economic **sanctions** are used to **target** the activities of countries, individuals and organizations in response to threats such as allowing money from illegal sources to be laundered, terrorism financing, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, human rights violations and cyber related activity

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (‘OFAC’) in the Department of the Treasury is responsible for the economic **sanctions** programs that **block** assets and restrict trade with certain countries, organizations, and individuals that have taken actions counter to US foreign policy


Sanction risk:
- Having an account relationship with a **sanctioned** party or holding a position involving a **sanctioned** issuer would constitute a violation
- Providing financial services to a company that derives a significant portion of its revenues from the sales to **sanctioned** countries
