Marketing / online advertising
English term or phrase: pod (online advertising)
This is from a brochure trying to persuade hotels to partner with a travel website and listing the benefits available to hotels, including:

"Unique online promotions on the site e.g. campaign comprising of homepage pop-up, primary pod and banner."

I've only heard of advertising pods for TV & radio before (i.e. the infamous commercial break), but not for online -- or am I totally barking up the wrong tree here?

Many thanks, Ute

Marketing E-Commerce 'Pods,' Start-Up Grabs $18 Million
By atnewyork Staff
The premise is pretty simple: Silicon Alley start-up ePod creates discreet e-commerce-enabled tiles that Web sites can drop in with a simple piece of code. The idea is to help the sites offer their users content and the chance to buy stuff.
One selling point is the company's customers. It has already signed up some decent names for prime spots on the code-based "pods" that are appearing around the Web. Clients, who pay a fee and share revenue, include NBCi, BigStar, Reciprocal, Clearnet, and Bolt.
"By using ePod, an advertiser will experience much higher interaction rates and conversion rates, thereby greatly improving its cost of customer acquisition," said Marc Singer, general partner at Brand Equity Ventures.

Many thanks, Kim - this seems to be exactly what it is in this case, as finally confirmed by the client: changeable advertising "windows". Haven't decided on the final translation yet but thanks for your very helpful guidance!

neutral  CMJ_Trans (X): I've found "pods" as "roller banners" (taka. KAKEMONO) - so perhaps here it is just vertical and horizontal banners
