Etikett Explanation: You don't give much context to go on, but I assume this is in the field of data processing. A label, acc. to Ferretti, is a "Datenblock auf Magnetschichtspeichern zur Markierung und Sicherung von Dateien". Brinkmann, Wörterbuch der Daten- und Kommunikationstechnik, also gives "Etikett". Other terms are Kennsatz, Dateietikett, Marke. Maybe one of these will fit into your overall context. |

Why not gracefully omit it? Explanation: In software terminology, both "Beschriftung" and "Bezeichnung" are found. However, why not leave it out at all? Example: "Den x-Datenbereich für die x-Achse verwenden." ftp: ftp.microsoft.com/developr/msdn/newup/glossary/ |
