Si parla di un'attentato negli anni 30:
he was shot from the running board of a car.

Vista l'epoca, credo si tratti di quella sporgenza fuori dalle portiere, su cui si poteva salire. Il marolli suggerisce "pedana" ma a proposito di treni, lo chiamerei "predellino", ma non sono sicuro, mi fa pensare più al tram. Grazie!
