"Tensile strength data in Table 2 plotted against carbon in the chemistry, Figure 1. A meno che non si voglia usare il verbo "fittare" inteso come effettuare l'operazione di fit, non trovo un metodo più rapido per esprimerlo. La retta è quella derivante dall'operazione di fit (per esempio ai minimi quadrati) effettuata su un insieme di misure.

Comunque confermo la valutazione di 5, sono assolutamente sicuro che quello che ho scritto è corretto. Nel grafico ci sono una serie di punti rappresentanti la grandezza misurata e una retta che ne approssima l'andamento, no?

Infatti la mia traduzione è letterale. Quella che fornisce lui non lo è. "Fitted to" significa che la linea è stata "fittata" alla serie dei dati. "Relativa" non esprime la relazione che c'è, cioè che la linea deriva da un'operazione matematica di fit. Comunque, se la linea è retta, in italiano si dice "retta" e non "linea" (linea retta si abbrevia in retta; in inglese, straight line invece lo abbreviano in line).

Asker: Ho inserito questa traduzione nel testo e il cliente si è lamentato per l'inesattezza della traduzione.

Asker: la pendenza della linea relativa alla resistenza alla trazione... (nelle traduzioni brevettuali bisogna essere il più fedeli possibile al testo, con traduzione letterali)
