Questa la frase : A silver ring, big enough for a hitching post, dangles from her nose.
Il tono del testo è piuttosto ironico, in questo momento si sta descrivendo l'aspetto di una seguace della moda "gothic". Ora, so cos'è l'hitching post, ma il problema è come rendere l'immagine in italiano con la stessa efficacia e stringatezza. C'è forse un termine tecnico in italiano per indicare quell'anello al quale si lega il cavallo, eliminando così il palo?

Ho scelto la tua idea, modificandola così : anello da toro, che è quello che ho trovato in rete. Naturalmente, non inserisco il termine nel glossario, trattandosi di una traduzione alquanto libera, ma i punti te li do visto che mi hai messo sull abuona strada ;)
