Concordo con l'altra risposta sulla balena, ma "thar" e' una deviazione di "there" perche'molte volte i marinai inglesi avevano un accento particolare, e pronunciavano there come thar. Si riferisce a balene, ma anche quando is vede passare una nave (solitamente positiva)

un modestissimo aiuto:
sul Ragazzini ho trovato There she blows! = Balena in vista (grido di baleniere). Non è che Thar è un nome proprio e si deve creare qualche gioco di parole? (Ecco la Thar che prende il mare, ecc.)
