Everyone in R&D was offered one day to work on whatever he/she wanted. Two weeks previously, employees presented their ideas in a “Pitch” session so they could create teams. At 13.00 on Thursday, they started and precisely 24 hours later they had to give their demo. Approx. 60 people participated in groups to produce 15 amazingly good, useful projects. One planned to reduce the CO2 emissions of our site, while others invented new products and product features; some people even rebuilt the paper airplane folding machine. It was a huge boost to morale, drive, focus and innovation! Some of the projects will be used in the future and discussions are in progress with strategic marketing. A jury selected the winners, who have the “bragging rights” until the next Fedex Day. They also received an award.
