In "The Haunted Dolls' House" ( http://www.litgothic.com/Texts/james...olls_house.pdf ) by M.R. James there is a phrase I'm not sure I understand well, and I'm even less sure about how I could translate it into Italian.
The phrase is 'Prime and Age', and it appears in a funerary inscription:
"James Merewether ... who, overwhelmed by the visitation which deprived him of an affectionate partner and a blooming offspring, passed his Prime and Age in a secluded yet elegant Retirement ..."

my translation:

"J. M. ... che, schiacciato dal castigo divino che lo privò di un’affettuosa compagna e di una fiorente prole, trascorse il fiore della giovinezza e la vecchiaia in un rifugio recluso ma elegante ..."

could this be right?

Explanation:
I think the translation you choose it's correct. just the repetition of "fiorente" prole and "fiore" degli anni does not convince me...I'd put a synonim for "fiorente"..like sana, vigorosa...
