Teak decking
Teak has natural properties, which make it ideal for the marine environment.
In the condition seen when your boat is new, the teak shall be a "light golden colour", and you may want to maintain that colour.
However, teak is very light sensitive and will become bleached by prolonged exposure to sunlight.
To maintain your teak deck, it is recommended to scrub it regularly with a soft bristle deck brush and plenty of salt water
It has been found that if stubborn dirt cannot be removed with water alone, then a scrub with soapy water will usually remove any stains.
Do not be afraid to use plenty of water on the teak decks as this will help to maintain the equilibrium of the wood, especially in hotter climates such as the Mediterranean.
We do not recommend the use of any proprietary teak finishes, i.e. oils, stains or varnishes.
Should you prefer the "light grey colour" of seasoned teak decking, the natural aging process will stabilise after a few months leaving a light, almost grey appearance to the teak.
The best way of maintaining your teak deck in this condition is to scrub it regularly with a soft bristle deck brush and plenty of salt water.
This will have the effect of cleaning the pores of the wood and killing any algae growth which occurs when fresh water is present for long periods of time.
Maintaining a slightly weathered deck look
Wet the wood with fresh water and use a brush or scrubbing pad to remove dirt and stains.
Carefully and thoroughly rinse the surface with fresh water.
