How should I translate Carmelized Leeks? I know what they are (see link), but I don't know if there is a word for this in Japanese.

キャラメライズド長ネギ・長ネギのキャラメリゼ

Explanation:
I have often seen キャラメライズドオニオン or キャラメライズドパイナップル、so maybe キャラメライズド長ネギ?

Second option, from the French : 長ネギのキャラメリゼ.

See references below.

Explanation:
I thinsk 「キャラメライズしたリーキ」is OK, but this explains what it better.

As for ”leek", there are 3 opitons, リーキ、ポロネギ、ポワロネギ, but the first one has the most hits when googled.

If an ingredient is "leeks", it is surely "ポロねぎ". Like green onions you can see in Japanese foods, it is "長ネギ".

Thanks,

焼きリーキのカラメル風 or カラメル風味の焼きリーキ

Explanation:
日本のネギとは違うと思いますので、リーキがふさわしいかと・・・リーキがメインの材料なので、「キャラメル」が中心にならないようにしました。 日本語の「カラメル」と「キャラメル」は意味が異なるようです。

アメ色(長)ネギ

Explanation:
アメ色タマネギ or アメタマ is commonly used for onions, not leeks. Whichever, it may not be so critical.

Usually it's cooked/sautéed without sugar, but turns out like 「アメ色 "caramelized"」.

Example sentence(s):
  • ひと手間省いてアメ色玉ねぎを作りましょう♪ 手間のかかるアメ色玉ねぎがあっという間に☆

リーキのカラメル焼き

Explanation:
質問で出されているcaramelized leekですが、調理方法に煮詰まらせて水分を飛ばし、リーキをべたべたにくっつくようにするか、好みによって、べたべたにならないように水を適度につぎ足すように書いてあるので、上記を提案させていただきます。

carmelized leeks
甘みがでるまでこんがりときつね色に炒めた(焼いた、あぶった)長ねぎ

Explanation:
There must be typo in it; “Carmelized” should be “Caramelized”. This term must be the leeks* which are sauteed, grilled or roasted to such a degree that it is cooked until golden brown to make it taste sweeter than would otherwise have been possible.
* The generic name of “leek(s)” is “にら” in Japanese. But, “長ねぎ”, one of the famous vegetables to eat in Japan, is equivalent to “leek, scallion, spring onion, Welsh onion, or long green onion” in English.

OOps... error in grammar:
"... to such a degree that they are cooked ..." is correct.

"caramelized"の背景には、当然leeksが調理された結果そうなったという背景があります。その調理法については述べられていませんので、「炒められた、焼かれた、あぶられた等(broil、grill、roast、toast、bake)」が考えられる訳です。

disagree  Yasutomo Kanazawa: Leekはニラとは別物です。正式名はニラネギで、ネギの一種です。また、あぶるという言葉は焼いたり炒めることとは別です。

carmelized leeks
キャラメル色に炒めた西洋葱

Explanation:
In Japan, the 'leek' is considered as a foreign vegetable. It can be translated into Japanese '西洋葱’ or translated as it is prononced 'リーク'. (From time to time, some consider ’leeks’ as ’長ネギ’(same family as leeks). The 'caramelization' is one of the cooking technique, hinting '炒め’。Therefore, it is better to use the word '炒めた’ to modify 'leeks'.

’Caramelization’ は、フランス料理の1つのテクニックで、黄金色の色まで煮詰めたり、炒めたりが可能でああるが、通常西洋葱を扱う場合、なべで煮詰めるというよりは、パン(フライパン)で、炒めて、色をつけていく。(玉ねぎも同様)。結論として、形容している名詞が、’Leeks’なので、'炒めた’を加えると的確である。 これが、球形状のもの'りんご'などであれば、'オーブン’で、がっと砂糖をCaramalization’することも可能である。
