What I use regularly in this context whenever I encounter this word in a file, is 'ਫਾਈਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਵੀਨਤਮ ਕਰਨਾ' (fayilaan noon naveentam karna) because When we'update a file', we delete some text or add some text and in the process we make the information in the file 'current' or 'new' , or in a sense we are making the file 'new'.
