Could someone please help to sort out what part of cartilage is the "shoulder" - I would appreciate the translation of all the quoted phrase.

The instance comes from a user manual concering biomaterial used in microfracture technique for cartilage recnostruction.

Context:

'If only fibrin glue is used, fixation may not be ensured for a sufficiently long period, which applies primarily to cartilage defects without completely retained cartilage shoulder (so-called uncontained defects). Therefore, fixation with fibrin glue should always occur under these conditions in combination with additional fixation methods (sutures, mini pins). The secure fixation of the implant in the defect should also be checked by the surgeon through “rotation of the joint” before layered closure'

To moja propozycja nie znalazłem niestety dokładnych cytatów z piśmiennictwa. Starałem się raczej zebrać wszystkie okruszki razem. Z polskich tłumaczeń znalazłem tylko "zamknięte" (drugi odnośnik) jako "contained". Logiczne byłoby zatem, aby "uncontained" były "niezamkniętymi".

Asker: Przepraszam za zwłokę w odpowiedzi - czekałem na dodatkowe informacje od klienta - chodzi po prostu o brzeg/obrzeże chrząstki, wyaje mi się teś, że bezpieczniej będzie pominąć fragment (so-called uncontained defects) - skoro nie jesteśmy pewni czy on wogóle funkcjonuje - być może tego typu stan jest okreslany wyłącznie opisowo. Nie mniej jednak bardzo dziękuję za pomoc :) Pozdrawiam.
