Pois bem, vamos lá saber que significados podem assumir estes dois verbos:

Deferir significa aprovar, conceder. Se fiz um requerimento, posso dizer que “o meu pedido foi deferido”, ou seja, “foi aceito”.

Diferir, por sua vez, exibe dois significados:

1. ser diferente, divergir: “A minha opinião difere da tua”;

2. adiar, transferir para outra data: “Vou diferir o pagamento deste serviço”.
