Ele está de pé e a narradora diz isso ao sugerir que eles podem pedir comida pelo telefone e comer no parque mesmo, em vez de voltar para casa por conta do cãozinho, que não pode entrar no restaurante. Entendo que o significado é mais ou menos este: "have one's interest aroused". Temporariamente, traduzi como "Nick demonstrou-se interessado". Ou talvez "Nick demonstrou interesse"?
