Vale a pena ver a história de calçado antigo neste website:

Os romanos foram os primeiros a moldar sola e gáspea, e a fazer formas diferentes para os pés direito e esquerdo, fato que fez grande sucesso. Em Roma, os calçados indicavam uma classe social, e os modelos se diferenciavam por cores. Eles também possuíam solas com adornos especiais e as pessoas de baixa estatura usavam plataforma para parecerem maiores. A “Carbatina” romana do século II foi a precursora do mocassim. Seu couro era recortado e preso com uma tira que conseguia moldar o pé do usuário. As mulheres romanas usavam ainda uma espécie de chinelo em casa chamado “soccus”, que podia ser de várias cores e tinha, às vezes, figuras pintadas.
