fetiţă fragilă; silfidă Explanation: Please note - I'm not 100% sure about how best to translate it into Romanian, but I know the series well (it's one of my favourites) and am commenting mainly on the meaning of the English phrase. I'm sure you can come up with a better Romanian translation. You're more or less right with "silfidă". In the series, Elizabeth is portrayed rather differently from the fearless woman that history books tell us about. In fact, she is portrayed as a young, naïve and capricious woman who is lacking in intelligence and behaves like a very spoilt young girl. She sits on her throne throughout and is never shown doing anything other than being waited on hand and foot by her courtiers. In the stretch of dialogue you've posted, Rum keeps emphasising Blackadder's femininity and weakness, even pointing out that Blackadder's job is nothing more than that of serving a woman (Queen Elizabeth) who is herself weak. "Slip of a girl" emphasises Elizabeth's physical weakness, and to some extent also her youth. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day1 hr (2008-06-21 14:49:27 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Nu ştiam că Rum (jucat de Tom Baker, dacă nu mă înşel) e irlandez, vorbeşte cu un accent pur englezesc şi nu foloseşte "irlandisme" în dialog. |
