Market watch: Apple to begin its long-term recovery?

Apple, the former #1 in terms of market capitalisation, has seen its share price bottom out below the $400 mark and begin what some are calling its longer term recovery.

The bounce in Apple share price is in no small part thanks to a number of factors, both fundamental and technical.
The first indication of a potential long trade was purely a technical play.
A more aggressive approach
With Apple testing below the $400 level (levels such as this are psychological to many traders) after a sell-off lasting over 6 months, and cutting $300 from the all-time share price, an exhaustion gap formed on April 19, giving those traders brave enough an opportunity to enter at the bottom of the market.
Traders will generally look to enter at an extreme of a move when a gap appears in anticipation of a trend reversal.
For the more cautious
The more cautious of traders however, would potentially have waited for the grossly oversold RSI oscillator to move back above the 30 level for confirmation of a potential reversal.
The fact that Apple, which was trading below the 30 mark, indicating an oversold market, moved above this level around April 22 just before the tech giant reported its earnings for the quarter, would have given some indication that at the very worst, short positions were being liquidated as profit was locked in.
