Думаю речь идёт о разности средних значений, а не о средней разности, так как группы не равны по количеству, и у них нет пар, для которых можно было бы посчитать разности и потом вычислить среднее значение этих разностей.

Полагаю, что высчитали средний IQ у тех, у кого была инфекция в возрасте до года (А), затем вычислили средний IQ у тех, у кого инфекций в этом возрасте не было (Б). А - Б = -1.61. Где-то здесь ещё нужно прикрутить adjusted.
