Eventually DW introduced something which every drummer who made records definitely knew he needed: the Delta ball bearing hinge. This arrived in 1995 and joined the bass drum pedal’s heel plate to the footplate with bearings and made recording simpler for the engineer because there was no annoying squeak from the pedal. And this noise often didn’t become obvious until the track was being mixed whereupon producers would be ready to pull their own heads off! Clued-up studios had talcum powder in their drum booths to sprinkle over the movable bits of the pedal to quieten it down long enough for the track to be recorded.
