Доброго времени суток.

In digital cameras, the image formed by the lens does not strike a film but a **chip array** called a charge-coupled device, or CCD. A CCD is a collection of an enormous number of diodes and silicon dots, called photosites. When a light beam strikes the silicon dots (pixels) on the CCD, they react to the light, just like the silver halide crystals do in black-and-white film photography.
