This scheme also identified (a) vital and (b) nonvital components. The commitment of the parent transaction was dependent upon vital transaction; that is, the parent could commit only if it’s vital components committed. This kind of commit dependency did not exist for nonvital components. The parent transaction was able to commit only after a nonvital component either committed or successfully aborted.
