3. Pow values in the range log Pow between -2 and 4 can be experimentally determined by the Shake-Flask method (OECD Test Guideline 107). Pow values in the range log Pow between 0 and 6 can be estimated using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (1) (2) (3) (4). The HPLC method requires a preliminary estimation of Pow , generally done through calculation.
Calculation methods are briefly discussed in the Annex to this guideline.

Guideline 117. Before deciding on what procedure to use, a preliminary estimate of the POW should be obtained from calculation (see the annex to Guideline 117), or where appropriate from the ratio of the solubilities of the test substance in the pure solvents (3).
