Explanation:
Es una estafa que también se conoce como - disculpen - "paquete chileno" en algunos lugares. Pido perdón a los nativos de la tierra de Neruda, pero así la conozco y preferiría que alguien sugiera otro nombre para ella.
Es una modalidad delictiva en la cual una persona se acerca a un incauto en un lugar público y se pone a charlar amigablemente con uno. Luego llega un tercero "desconocido" y les pide ayuda, pues ha encontrado un paquete con dinero. Después de diversas vueltas, le hacen a uno cambiar el dinero y las personas desaparecen llevándose el dinero del incauto.
Lamentablemente, conozco a gente que le ha pasado, y no han sido chilenos precisamente los estafadores.

Explanation:
Let´s see... since I doubt the literal translation would be fit, there are several possibilities open:

a) You meant "grief" instead of "grift" (which I first tought to be "gift"). In this case the translation given above is for "scam", which is colloquialy called "pigeon drop".

b) You meant "gift", in which case a pigeon drop would be very strange, unless you refer (and this could be far-fetched) to "drops" as in those little mints (perhaps they are pigeon-shaped?). This would be "pichones de caramelos", "pastillas pichonas" or something along those lines.

d) It is some sort of table board game in which you trick your opponent, in which case I´d go for a).

c) It is a dirty little gift called "pigeon drop" (let´s not dwell in the reasons); any of the translations proposed by my colleagues will do just fine :)
