Por lo que veo, "aprender sobre la marcha" podría significar más bien algo como "along the way", que es un poco distinto a "on the go", lo que denota que se lleva una vida muy atareada, por lo que la posibilidad de (optar por) aprender **en cualquier momento**, y desde cualquier lugar del mundo, puede ser conveniente.

For example, in the article below, I´d be more inclined to translate "sobre la marcha" as "along the way" (Mexico is not prepared to improvise, nor to [just] learn along the way.")

Whereas "on the go" has a very positive connotation, "sobre la marcha" puede utilizarse también en esos momentos cuando uno no dispone de suficiente tiempo. It might be a difference without a distinction, as you could say, "I had to do it on the go," but I think saying "I had to do it along the way" or "on the way" (because there was no time) might be a little more common.

Just some food for thought in the context of common usage (at least in the US).

Cabe señalar las dos definiciones de "sobre la marcha", según el DRAE:

sobre la marcha

1. loc. adv. Deprisa, inmediatamente, en el acto.

2. loc. adv. A medida que se va haciendo algo.

Para mí, comunica bastante la idea de "playing it by ear", o un poquito "ad lib", de forma espontánea y libre.

Es decir, que en el contexto de "flexibilidá"* "libertá"* y "fraternidá"*, quié disí lo que dise... ;-)

Al libre albedrío del que estudia y trabaja con brío...
