Creo que es mejor elegir un carácter neutro en lugar de "superior", "supremo", etc. porque en función de cada sitio se llamará de una manera u otra.

Se refiere al sistema judicial estatal de EE.UU. (que funciona paralelamente al federal).

Habitualmente, tiene tres niveles: tribunales de primera instancia, tribunales intermedios de apelación y el tribunal supremo estatal. Según el conocimiento o no del ordenamiento jurídico estadounidense de los destinatarios, yo añadiría la glosa ("es decir, los tribunales supremos estatales") como aclaración.

Yo utilizaría el término jerarquía, que implica verticalidad (mayores competencias del tribunal según se asciende), una cualidad de todo sistema judicial, y dejaría muy claro que se trata del tribunal supremo de cada uno de los estados (sistema judicial estatal), para diferenciarlo del federal.
