Slang = A kind of language occurring chiefly in casual and playful speech, made up typically of short-lived coinages and figures of speech that are deliberately used in place of standard terms for added raciness, humor, irreverence, or other effect.

En este caso \"Shakedown\" figurativamente significa lo mismo que en \'sacudir la alfombra\' = sacudirla para hacer caer toda la basura que se esconde entre los pliegues y ranuras\'. Claramente el objetivo es descubrir e incautar artículos prohibidos.

Sugiero que lo más claro para la audiencia de destino (presos en Texas) sería simplemente: \"...Usted debe cooperar totalmente con el personal durante los registros y shakedowns (inspecciones minuciosas)...\" De esta manera ellos asociarán la palabra \"shakedown\" que supongo será de uso muy común en ese ambiente, con su significado real.

Tras muchas consultas me quedo con "requisa" o "registro exhaustivo", que son los términos más empleados.
Los verás en las webs que te doy.
Robert,en webs de la América hispana se emplea la palabra inglesa
"shakedown", así que otra opción es dejarla tal cual explicando su significado.Tú verás.
En cuanto a "shake" no tiene aquí nada que ver con sacudir.Mira lo que pone el Webster:
to shake down=TO MAKE A THOROUGH SEARCH
y trae este ejemplo:
"decided to *shake down* the inmates to make sure nothing had been smuggled into the jail (Police Detective)"
De la primera web:

en Shirley..." - deja el término inglés

agree  Herman Vilella: Cateo in Spain is "failing a student" (it appears to be a relatively new term). I think we should stick to the AIM of the translation, and its SKOPOS. If it's for persons in areas occupied by the US since 1825, certainly use local Spanish vernacular.
