there seems to be no big difference
the one i found is that a trade show is supposed to be interprofessional according to roberts and collins
i would also say that there may be a difference in the size of those events

A trade show, as our colleague says, is bigger. In a trade show you have many exhibitors, but I think this is mostly a matter of usage, not strictly of meaning.

Explanation:
In my experience when you go to a trade show, you are going to a specialized sort of exhibition, which also has sales of the exhibited products as a target. When there is an "exhibition" although there may be a hidden agenda for sales, it is more a matter of "let the world know we exist". I hope my explanation helps you Mr. el katrin.
