En mi búsqueda solamente encontré mención de "tap root" (taproot también) como la raíz principal, gruesa y que se adentra muy profundamente en la tierra. Propongo la respuesta de "barrena de la torre de perforación" pues parece ser una variante de tap root adaptada a la industria petrolera.
