gig economy

Definition from own experience or research:
The term, “gig economy” is a tech-derived term that is now widely used in the mainstream. Like with such terms as “smartphone” and “web browser “, speakers of Tagalog expect to read these in the original English, and therefore should not be over-translated into Tagalog.

Take note that "gig" here refers to the tech-related term "gig" that pertains to a one-off/project-based or freelance work engagement. The etymology can be traced to musicians doing "paid engagements" (i.e. "one-performances") that are not typically expected ast for the long-term. as is the nature of performance musicians. The semantic application of the term eventually expanded to paid work done by other irregular providers of work or services.

Example sentence(s):
  • English: "As time passes by and due to the multitude of changes in the modern world, a lot of evidence and data will show that our country will also move towards the gig economy and this will become more well-known or prevalent in the years to come." Tagalog: "Sa paglipas ng panahon at dulot ng maraming pagbabago sa modernong mundo, maraming patunay at mga datos ang nagsasabing sa gig economy na rin papunta ang ating bansa at magiging mas kilala o laganap ito sa mga darating na taon." - Pilipino Mirror online Tagalog newspaper
