der Enkel / die Enkelin

Everyday German simply uses the word "Enkel". A grandparent would say, "ich habe [number] Enkel".

In reference to a grandson, the grandparent would say "mein Enkel", and the reference to a granddaughter would be "meine Enkelin".

Enkelsohn and Enkeltochter are correct as well, but are a bit more formal and sound somewhat stilted.

brnebrn (grandchildren) barnebarn (grandchild)

Danish for grandchildren-grandchild.
Son/doughter are not used in this case. Simply grandchild...barnebarn for both male and female.
