English term or phrase: validation state vs validation status
I'm translating a manual into German which
1. is written by non-native speakers of the English language
2. very inconsistent

My question is the following - as I'm quite 'confuzzled' right now:

The author(s) of the original text alternately use(s) validation state and validation status,
e.g. the *validation state* of (the newly created item) is pending.

But what is right? State or status?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Selected answer:validation status
Explanation:
I think state is used to describe a property more natural(intrinsic) to the subject, and status is used to describe a property that is not intrinsic .
validation can be used for any subject,so it's not an intrinsic property.

agree  Tony M: Yes, you can ask the following question: What is the current position regarding validation? It's status is 'pending'/'completed', etc, etc.
