plugs in a weather position

English translation: connectors exposed to weather

06:48 Aug 11, 2006
English language (monolingual) [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Electronics / Elect Eng / marine electrical
English term or phrase: plugs in a weather position
Electrical summation:

If the plugs are in a weather position they must be able to be locked into position [as per Hubble Clipsal type].

In a marine glossary I’ve found something like this:
Weather – Upwind Opposite of lee. The weather side of a ship is that which is facing into the wind.

But there is nothing about a plug. Can you explain, what it can mean?

agree  Marcella S.: a plug is connected into a socket. Generically these are connectors. Whether in a marine environment or not, anything (particularlu electrical connections) that is exposed to the weather need to be protected.
