Surely you don't need a definition of "lower surface"? The aerofoil profile is normally set at a certain "angle of attack" to the airflow, so that the pressure of the airflow is exerted on the lower surface of the aerofoil process, creating the main force which drives the rotor or propeller. The component of this force perpendicular to the airflow is called lift. More lift is created as the air flows over the convex shape of the upper surface of the aerofoil, since because of this shape, the air flow becomes faster but its pressure is reduced.
