The simplest, easiest way to secure the batting in a quilt is to pass the needle and thread through all layers of the the quilt while leaving a thread tail on top of the quilt. Then pass the needle and thread back through the quilt and, using a square knot, tie off the threads. Snip the threads and leave the ends of the threads 1/2 to 1 inch long depending on effect desired. That completes one tuft. Repeat over the entire quilt in the desired pattern until all the batting is secured.

In upholstery work, the work of tufting is completed by securing or covering the tuft with a button.

The purpose of tufting is obvious: it keeps the material from moving around inside the bed….

TOOL TUFTING NEEDLE #417 This is THE VERY BEST button replacement tool that does not catch when it is withdrawn. After threading button, end of needle is loaded with clasps. As needle reaches maximum depth, clasp is ejected. Save time and labor. No need to remove the outside back of piece being tufted. A splendid tool to the true craftsman. WORKING PROCESS: 1. At the start assemble on thread the corresponding quantity of clasps for the required number of stitches. Insert clasp with thread in the hollow of the needle. 2. Push needle (with inserted clasps and thread) through upholstery fabric, press head of needle. Clasp with thread will be ejected. 3. Pull needle out and tighten thread, clasp will be anchored inside. Instructions are included with the tool. Item #: TLS03 Price: $39.42
