English term or phrase: deportee
Dear All,

According to various of my references, a deportee is
- A deported person.
- One forced to emigrate, usually for political reasons
- expelled from home or country by authority

My question is:

Can this term be also used for a person who has not yet been deported but is under deportation proceedings? Is there any other term (e.g. (sic?)deportant)?

TIA
S.

If the person being deported is in detention, detainee would be the usual word.

Notes to answerer
Asker: No, he is not in detention. "The person being deported" could be an option, but it seems too long. I am also considering Cristina's comment. What do you think? Thank you for your time :)

agree  Michael Powers (PhD): It can be a person that is officially deported, but has not physically been deported because the original country will not accept him back, and no third country has offered to take him either. - Mike :)
