English term or phrase: denote
I wonder if \"denote by\" and \"denote with\" have just the same meaning or there is a slight difference between them.

Examples:
- We denote the collection of variables by S.
- We denote the collection of variables with S.
Domenico Cantone
English translation:In this case I think it makes no difference.
Explanation:
S is the "name" of the collection of variables. It serves to indentify these variables. "denote" here is a verb and means "to mark"
However, for example:
"The reviewers denote the book by Joe as a great literary work." vs. "The reviewers denote with pride that his associate's book is a great literary work." "Denote by" and "denote with" are different in the above example.
