English to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Management / Risk Management
English term or phrase:material (adj.)
From an in interview with a Risk Manager:
"Possibly I may add, coming from a chemical company, I think similar to the pharmaceutical industry, that those highly exposed companies and bigger corporations were often already rated on the stock exchange in the US and had to apply materially much tougher compliance and risk management standards like SOX and the SEC regulations, so the new framework is more a formal one, and I think the **material** standard for those companies is anyway necessary for their survival."
Could someone provide me with a couple of synonyms (of the adjective: "material") in this context?
I agree with mchd; if you look into SOX and SEC regulations, the conclusion is that they are talking about "material standards", therefore it is not feasible to separate "material" as an adjective, because that would lead to misunderstanding.
