Bus/Financial - Management / Risk Management
English term or phrase: material (adj.)
From an in interview with a Risk Manager:

"Possibly I may add, coming from a chemical company, I think similar to the pharmaceutical industry, that those highly exposed companies and bigger corporations were often already rated on the stock exchange in the US and had to apply materially much tougher compliance and risk management standards like SOX and the SEC regulations, so the new framework is more a formal one, and I think the **material** standard for those companies is anyway necessary for their survival."

Could someone provide me with a couple of synonyms (of the adjective: "material") in this context?

Thanks in advance

tangibly/concretely (ADVERB)

Explanation:
I'm not sure if materially (an adverb) modifies apply or if it the intended meaning was an adjective (material) that modifies standards:

had to tangibly apply
had to apply concretely

OR

had to apply much tougher and concrete/tangible compliance... standards

Explanation:
materially - significantly, considerably, substantially, importantly, (maybe) essentially

material (adj) - I would use either of: significant, important

Thesaurus also shows "relevant" but it would rather not fit into you specific context.

Explanation:
I think, "material standard" (the standard specimen of some material or matter) could be also called real, substantial standard.
