English to English translations [PRO] Medical - Medical: Pharmaceuticals / Vaccines
English term or phrase:vaccinologist
Context: The advent of the vaccine against HPV brings together two major health communities who have not usually worked together in the past, namely cancerologists and ***vaccinologists.***
This is taken from an interview regarding the introduction of HPV vaccines in developing countries. The interviewee is a non-native speaker (I assume). I've changed "cancerologist" to "oncologist" but can only think of "immunologist" as a replacement for "vaccinologist" as the latter term doesn't appear in either Webster's or the OED. Any other ideas?
It's a neologism - used both in the medical and general press. I don't see any problem with using it >> vaccine specialists, people working on the development of vaccines in the pharma industry, etc. They are not necessarily immunologists.
