matures under the sun

Business matures under the Italian sun

Can I say it in an advertising context? The question is: can "under" be used together with the verb "mature"?

You can.

There is no inherent conflict between "under" and the verb "mature." I can't be entirely sure about the full meaning without having more context.

agree Peter Coles : Grammatically this is correct, but I also agree that the meaning is less clear and not what I suspect exactly Guisi is hoping it will be.

agree yeswhere : grammatically correct, but as 'matures' also means 'growing old', Hermann's 2nd suggestion is better for advertising.

I agree with Hermann. I prefer "blossoms."

then you could say: business \'flourishes\' / \'blossoms\' under the Italian sun
Peer comment(s):

agree Enza Longo : fluorishes would be quite appropriate in this context

grazie
agree yeswhere : flourishes/blossoms sounds more dynamic for advertising

cheers - why not - with Spring around the corner :-)
agree Steffen Walter : flourishes or blossoms

agree jerrie : blossoms, ripens etc

agree Christopher Crockett : "Fl*ou*rishes" or "thrives" sound best to this American ear. *Unless* the context actually calls for "matures," in which case "ripens" or "comes to fruition" work very well.

mature under

I think it is ok in this sentence as you think of plants maturing or ripening under the sun.

No problem

"under the sun" is a complement of place
Peer comment(s):

agree Jacqueline van der Spek : "in the sun" would be another option, I think

ripens

I guess matures under (in) the Italian sun (shine) is OK...

but I would use ripens!
Business ripens (swells, develops, blossoms) under / in the Italian sun (shine)!

agree Nancy Arrowsmith : visions of pomodori and figs dance through my head...

Yes, whereas 'matures'...I'm thinking prunes!

blooms

if you want an alternative to "matures", which is fine, but perhaps not the best choice in this context.
Also blossoms, ripens, flourishes, etc. You're spoilt for choice on this one!

No problem for the rest of the sentence: \"under the Italian sun\", or even \"in sunny Italy\"
