English term or phrase:The visit should be performed +/- 10 days around the target date
Hi friends! Could you please help me to understand the exact meaning of the phrase?
Does it mean that the visit may be performed within 5 days prior to and 5 days after the target date (5+5 equalling to 10 days), or 10 days prior to and 10 days after the target date?
That's not really true, Phil — if you use 'around' in the sense of 'approximately', then it could only be read as 'within approximately 10 days of the date' (i.e. could be a max. 10 days either before or after). If you want it to mean 'around' = 'either side of', then it still would come out as '10 days before or after'.
For it to mean what you are suggesting, it would have had to have been expressed as something like 'within a 10-day window around the date' — which is not by a long way what the source text actually says.
