English term or phrase: buffered design of a bower
On the top floor of the building - today Suite number 10 - one can see the buffered design of a bower on the highest ceiling.
In the corridors and stairwells the original lime plaster from the 16th century is still visible, uncovered following renovations.
I do not understand what " buffered design of a bower"?
I have no idea ...
As it is a ceiling, and apparently from quite an old building, I did wonder if this was simply a spell-checker-induced arror for 'coffered'? I suppose one might have a 'coffered ceiling' decorated as some kind of 'bower'...
Alternatively, I wondered if it was just an outright error for something that is partly erased... ?
