English term or phrase: Billboard Hot 100 fare
...my classmates, who are busy trading iPods back and forth, listening to one song after another. ***No Billboard Hot 100 fare for us***. We’re better than that. Those tunes are for kids at P.S. Whatever- the- hell. We attend St. Anselm’s, Brooklyn’s most prestigious private school.

I found this on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Hot_100

but I'm still a bit confused
can somebody please explain what's the connotation here?
does the Billboard Hot 100 stand for some kind of generic popular non-intellectual cheap music? (as opposed to the intellectual music that the kids at St. Anselm's listen to)
also, does "fare" stand for "diet" or something?

yes
Explanation:
is the short answer!
This refers to ordinary "pop music" in the US charts - music which the kids in question consider to be beneath them.
"Fare" as in the music they "consume" (in this case "listen to").
