English term or phrase: allusion
Eventually all(cases of UFO) was satisfactorily explained or,quite as good, forgotten.Yet the real significance of these portents was not so much their mysterios reality as the profound effect they had upon people who, despite their emphatic materialism, were as easily shattered by the unexpected as their ancestors who beheld eagles circling the Capitoline Hill, observed the sky grow leaden on Golgotha, shivered in loud storms when the rain was red as blood and the wind was full of toads, while in our own century, attended by a statesman-Pope,the sun did a dance over Portugal.
While a statesman-Pope refers to Pio X11, as I believe, who was very interested in politics and even was if I'm not mistaken a minister during 1930-39,the allusion "the sun did a dance over Portugal" escapes me.I'd very glad to hear your opinions on that account.Thank you all in advance.

The National Post's Patchen Barss reports on the continuing debate between believers and skeptics of the "miracle" at Fatima, Portugal, where it it believed that the Virgin Mary appeared to three children in May and October of 1917.

According to Fatima witnesses, on October 13, 1917 the "sun danced and bobbed in the sky" and the Virgin Mary imparted "a three-part revelation to Lucia [de Jesus dos Santos] about upcoming religious and political matters of the 20th century." Lucia, who is now a 92-year-old cloistered nun, revealed two of the three secrets in her memoirs, but, only revealed the last secrets to high-ranking Catholic officials.
