English term or phrase: get the client "a little bit pregnant"
So, as a Brit I have to ask my American colleagues something:

Today's Dilbert cartoon is based on a misunderstanding of the phrase "get the client a little bit pregnant".

What does this mean in a business context?

Thanks

Explanation:
is my read, but still just a guess.
Or perhaps "do whatever it takes to get the client to sign"
