English term or phrase: falling into shots
Hello everyone,

From description of the fight between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz from the book by John Kavanagh (Conor's coach):

"The first round played out pretty much as I expected. At the end of it I was relatively satisfied, but not completely happy. While Conor landed plenty of good shots, I noticed early on that he was winding up a lot on his left hand. He was sort of ***falling into shots***, which is something he usually would never do."

Does "falling into shots" imply that Conor was out of balance when landing his shots/was almost falling forward while landing his shots?

Thank you.

English translation:leaning forward trying to get shots in
Explanation:
I think this is what it has to mean...Instead of keeping his centre of gravity and punching cleanly and on target Mc Gregor was following the shot which meant Diaz could step out of the way, make him miss and lose his balance and then counter with a killer punch.
"He felt that a finish was imminent, which only served to convince him to wind up that left hand more and more in order to pursue it. He was investing a lot of energy in those punches, instead of using the clean technique that he has become renowned for."
"Diaz landed a nice straight left square on Conor’s face. Then I saw something I had never seen before: Conor’s legs wobbled"...
By being off-balance McGregor was hurt more by this punchg because he was already off balance by pursuing or falling into the shots...

8) DON’T COLLIDE

Whenever you fall into a punch, it increases the impact of the punch greatly. It’s like a train colliding head on with car. To prevent this from happening you have to keep your body weight gravity centered as much as possible.

This means that when you throw a punch, don’t lean in or commit to it too much (unless you’re very confident that it’ll land). If you’re carelessly throwing power shot after power shot, a good boxer will just step back, make you miss and fall onto a big counter."

so that's what happened here...Conor was committing to each shot, tiring himself out and not making contact, and then he fell into the counter punch from Diaz which had even more of an impact
