SN = (PO)ŒREDNIE NAPIÊCIE = INTERMEDIATE VOLTAGE

Transfer of energy in power system is usually done with high voltage lines (110kV, 220kV, or even higher). This reduces current (amperage) and therefore losses. Transformers are used to step down the voltage to medium voltage (15kV, 6kV) for local distribution, and to 0,4kV for end users.

The transformer winding operating at the high voltage is called PRIMARY WINDING(GN = GÓRNE NAPIÊCIE)

The transformer's winding operating at the low voltage is called SECONDARY WINDING(DN = DOLNE NAPIÊCIE)
