English term or phrase: We actually need technical help w/UTF-8 compliant Amharic Font
Please call if you know the difference between a regular Amharic font like Geez and a UTF-8 compliant font like GF Zemenu that is used for webpages.

A client needs the translation to be done in GF Zemenu.

Please call ASAP.

they're not interchangeable fonts, so do ur translation in the requested font

Explanation:
is the geez font u mentioned more like Ge'ez-1 or something similar? if it is, i'm afraid its not unicode but rather a sort of modification of the english alphabet. i would not advise anyone to use this font as it can be tricky to use and impossible to handle with regular amharic fonts (for e.g., u can't replace it with other unicode amharic fonts; u'll have to type all over). personally, i don't like Ge'ez-1 or similar fonts because they can create a mess (the font itself has many defects). i'd advise anyone to use regular unicode fonts. by the way, i don't consider Ge'ez-1 fonts and the like 'regular'.

amharic unicode fonts may require additional software to enable amharic keyboard layout typing, which u can find many on the internet, (check http://www.senamirmir.org/downloads/, for example) but its worth it. personally i'd strongly advise anyone to use unicode.

if ur client says it needs to be done in GF Zemenu, then stay away from geez and do it in the requested font. (of course u can do it in any other unicode font and replace it with Gf Zemenu later if u want.)

hope this helped

From this time on, nyala should be the first choice of font for Amharic

Explanation:
From this time on, I would advise anybody to use nyala as Amharic font for regular uses. nyala is Unicode based and it is shipped with windows Vista and latter.

In case anybody is having any difficulty to use this font(Or any Amharic Keyboard layout software like Power Ge'ez), contact me and I am happy to help.
