English term or phrase: will you go to homecoming with me?
asking a girl to a dance
andy
Arabic translation:Hal takooneena rafeeqati fi Haflat al-liqaa'?
Explanation:
Andy, as you well know, you may say that 'Andrea' has been chosen "to be the HOMECOMING queen (= female student who leads the celebration) for this year's alumni reunion."

Back translation of my Arabic rendering is (literally): Would you be my companion in reunion party? Kind of a 'smart' way of asking: Would be my party 'queen?'

You may be poetic and say: Kooni maleekati hathihi al-layla (be my queen tonight).

Good luck with her, irrespective of the meaning.

Hafel laam al shaml

Explanation:
I saw it once subtitled as "hafel Laam al shaml" or gathering . I beleive this was a good translation. Gus's answer is very good also but I think Liqaa' means 'meeting'whereas "Laam al shaml" , from my own point of view, is closer to reunion
