مقبس/واجهة ويندوز Explanation: To summarize, it is an interface (واجهة برمجية)that allows all applications under Windows to access services through the network (and so the Internet). It is also called "Winsock" for short; "وينسوك" in Arabic, and I personally like this latter one. Good luck. Ahmad |

miqbaD مِقبَض, qabiD قابض Explanation: A socket is provides a communication connection between two software processes (tasks). one task (the server) usually waits for something to appear on the socket, while the client processes write to the socket. Therefore the socket acts as a software mechanism to capture messages from different dources and make it available for a server. Thus, the meaning would be مقبض or قابض. Sockets are not specific to windows, in fact they started as a Unix mechanism and are also used on other operating systems, so adding "windows وندوز" makes sense only when translating winsock. |

mirfaq مِرفَق / mirfaq windows مِرفَق وندوز Explanation: I was going through some technical sockets documentation recently which led me to add this addendum to my previous suggestion. Basically, sockets in client/server applications work in pairs, so a pair of sockets connects between the server and the client, the server sees one end and the client sees the other, just as the forearm and the upper arm are joint at the elbow to produce and integrated whole. I therefore chose the Arabic word for elbow, which is also used in Arabic for mechanical joints, namely "mirfaq مرفق". In case of winsock, you can add "windows" as a qualifier, but bear in mind that "socket" is a generic software term, whereas "winsock" is an interface specific to MS Windows. Hope this helps.
